Shine
Regarding Frida's solo career, after the success of "Something's Going On," producer Steve Lillywhite replaced Phil for her new album.
Recording began on February 1, 1984, at the Grande Armée studios in Paris. Steve's then-wife, Kirsty MacColl, co-wrote three songs that were included on the album, as well as a fourth recorded during the sessions and used as a B-side.
The album marked Frida's debut as a songwriter with
"Don't Do It" and "That's Tough," the latter of which also
features her son Hans Fredriksson as a co-writer. The song "Slowly"
was written by Björn and Benny.
The album's lead single was "Shine."
"Twist in the Dark," "Come to Me (I Am Woman)," and
"Heart of the Country" were released as singles in some countries.
“Shine” reached the Top 10 on the album charts in Sweden and Norway, and the
Top 30 in the Netherlands and Switzerland.
By 1984, Björn & Benny had a double LP ready, which
they released to the public to promote and test the musical Chess. They
performed five one-off concerts in London, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Paris, and
Stockholm with the cast from the album.

The singles “Anthem,” “Nobody’s Side,” “The Arbiter,”
“I Know Him So Well,” and “One Night in Bangkok” were also released, the latter
of which was a nightclub hit at the time.
Michael B. Tretow released the album "Spöktimmen”.
1985
Eyes of a Woman
In 1985, Agnetha released her second album, “Eyes of a
Woman,” produced by Eric Stewart of TenCC.
Four singles were released from the album: “I Won't
Let You Go,” “One Way Love,” “Just One Heart,” and “The Angels Cry”. “I Won't
Let You Go” was written by Agnetha and is the only single to chart in Europe.
To promote the album, she recorded the program “A for
Agnetha”.
After meeting siblings Karin and Anders Glenmark, whom
Björn dubbed Gemini, Björn and Benny decided to produce an album for
themselves: “Gemini,” which was released in 1985 and contains the only official
version of “Just Like That,” as well as a cover of Frida's “Slowly” and the hit
single “Another You, Another Me,” all written by Björn and Benny.
Michael B. Tretow released the album "Tomteland”.
1986
ABBA Live (álbum)
In 1986, the album ABBA Live was released, containing
tracks taken from ABBA's concerts at Wembley Arena in London in November 1979,
the Australian tour in March 1977, and the television special Dick Cavett Meets
ABBA, recorded in April 1981.
None of the members participated in the production of
the album. And to the dismay of music critics and ABBA fans alike, 1980s
synthesizer drums were overdubbed on most of the tracks, which detracted from
the true live feel of their performances.
On May 14, 1986, the musical Chess premiered at the
Prince Edward Theatre in London, where it would run for three years.
In 1986, Björn & Benny wrote "De' E' Så Man
Dånar" for Lill Lindfors' album "Om Du Var Här" on the Polar
Music label.
Michael B. Tretow released the album "Makalösa
Manickar”.

I Stand Alone
In 1987, Agnetha traveled to California to record the
album "I Stand Alone," produced by Peter Cetera of Chicago and Bruce
Gaitsch.
Without any promotion from Agnetha, the album was only
successful in Sweden, and the single "I Wasn't The One," which she
sang as a duet with Peter Cetera, entered the US Billboard Hot 100.
Other singles released from the album are "The
Last Time" and "Let It Shine”.
"Maybe It Was Magic" and "If You Need
Somebody Tonight" are songs she wrote herself.

Klinga Mina Klockor
In 1987, Benny released his first solo album,
featuring traditional Swedish music, performed by himself on the accordion and
accompanied by Orsa Spelman.
Only two songs have lyrics: the first, "Efter
Regnet," performed by Karin and Anders Glenmark with Tommy Körberg, and
the second, which gives the album its title, "Klinga Mina Klockor,"
featuring collaborations with many of Benny's artist friends, including Frida.

Mono Music
In 1987, Björn moved to London with his family,
leaving Benny alone. This is how he came up with the name of his record label,
Mono Music, meaning "Mono for one," as the equivalent of one person,
rather than "stereo," the equivalent of the two people he and Björn
formed.
In addition to producing his own albums, he also
opened the door to artists who were having trouble finding producers, as
described by Benny.
It hosted the Ainbusk Singers, the Gustaf Sjökvists
Kammarkör, the group Triakel, and various artists, mostly from Swedish folk
music.
Due to its success, Gemini recorded a second album in
1987, "Geminism," which most notably features the group's biggest
hit, "Myo min Mio," from the film "Mio in the Land of the
Afterlife”.
In 1987, Frida released "Så Länge Vi Har
Varann" as a single with the group Ra Ta Ta, also in an English version.
""I Know Him So Well" was recorded by Whitney
Houston as a duet with Cissy Houston for her 1987 album "Whitney”.
1988
Orsa Spelmän
One of the first groups to join Mono Music was the
folk group Orsa Spelmän, featuring Kalle Moraeus, among others. Benny
participated in their albums, while the group also participated in Benny's
albums.
They released four albums featuring only Swedish folk
music.
Since 2001, they have been part of the Benny
Anderssons Orchestra.
Orsa Speleman - Visa Från Venjan
Two years after the London version of Chess, an
American version was staged on Broadway, which, critically panned, didn't last
more than two months.
To promote the American version, an album of the main
songs was released, along with a single featuring the newly written Broadway
song, "Someone Else's Story," performed by Judy Kuhn.

1992
In 1992, with the sale of ABBA's catalog to Polydor,
the record label decided to release a new CD compilation called "ABBA Gold”.
ABBA Gold
With sales of 30 million copies, ABBA Gold is one of
the best-selling albums worldwide. Since 1992, it has been re-released several
times, including a remastered reissue in 1999 to commemorate the 25th
anniversary of the group's 1974 Eurovision Song Contest victory, a reissue in
2008 to coincide with the release of the film "Mamma Mia," and
another reissue in 2014 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the group's
Eurovision Song Contest victory.
ABBA - Knowing Me, Knowing You
That same year, the group Björn Again was born in Australia, the first ABBA tribute group and invited by the group Nirvana, they performed at the Reading Festival in England.
Erasure released an EP called ABBA-esque with music videos.
In 1992, Frida performed several songs at a charity

Thank You For The Music CD Box
In 1994, with the help of Carl-Magnus Palm and Michael
Tretow, Universal released a four-CD box set, the fourth of which was composed
of previously unreleased rarities. This allowed us to discover "Put On
Your White Sombrero" and other songs that had never been released on CD.
Furthermore, since it was remastered by Michael, it provides a guarantee of
quality not found in later remasters of studio albums.
Frida celebrated Queen Silvia's 50th birthday by
performing "Dancing Queen" a cappella with the Real Group.
Benny also co-wrote "Fru Vennermans Sång,"
which he performed with Gosta Ekman.
In 1994, another Chess concert in Gothenburg was
recorded on a double CD.
1995
Kristina från Duvemåla
After Chess, Björn and Benny wanted to make a musical
in Swedish, and so they decided to adapt Vilhelm Moberg's play "The
Emigrants”. In 1995, they presented the musical in Malmö, and it was an
immediate success nationwide, winning four awards at the 1999 Guldsmasken Theatre
Awards. The six-hour play is released on three CDs, but it has only been
performed in its entirety twice, the second time being in 2001.
The singles were "Du Måste Finnas" and
"Hemma" performed by Helen Sjöholm, "Guldet Blev Till Sand"
performed by Peter Jöback, "Vildgräs" performed by Anders Ekborg, and
"Präriens Drottning" performed by a choir.
Only "Du Måste Finnas" and "Guldet Blev
Till Sand" were hits at the Svensktoppen.
In 1995, Michael B. Tretow released the album "Muswik
ur filmen Bert”.
1996
A special concert in Swedish, with Björn and Benny
present, took place on October 12, 1996, in Minneapolis, USA, where many
descendants of Swedish emigrants still live.
Djupa Andetag
Djupa Andetag is Frida's fifth album, released
exclusively in Scandinavia by Anderson Records on September 20, 1996. It was
produced by Anders Glenmark, who wrote most of the songs, and was recorded at
Polar Music Studios.
"Alla Mina Bästa År" is a song that was It
was intended to be performed as a duet with Agnetha, but as she didn't feel
ready for the occasion, Roxette vocalist Marie Fredriksson replaced her.
"Kvinnor Som Springer" is the only song
written by Frida on that album.
In 1996, the compilation "My Love, My Life"
was released, and it's worth noting that all the tracks were chosen by Agnetha.
Michael B. Tretow released the album "En galen
jul”.
Sofia Tretow - Jag Såg Pappa Kyssa Tomten
1997
In 1997, all the studio albums and ABBA Live were
released in remastered CD format. Some B-sides from singles were added to the
albums to give them more value.
In 1998, Agnetha released the CD single "The
Queen of Heart," an English version of "När du tar mej i din
famn" (I'm not a girl) and was used for the compilation "That's
Me," released the same year.
Orsa Speleman released the album "Ödra”.
In 1999, a metal box set, "The Singles
Collection," was released with all of ABBA's singles in CD-single format.
The first official ABBA documentary was released under
the title "The Winner Takes It All”.
Mamma Mia, el musical
It wasn't until 1998 that Judith Craymer was able to
convince Björn and Benny to let her put together a musical featuring ABBA
songs.
Mamma Mia isn't a musical written by Björn and Benny,
but in 1998, Judith hired Catherine Johnson to write a story based on ABBA songs,
and Phyllida Loyd ultimately directed the show.
The musical tells the story of a single mother whose
daughter is getting married. In an attempt to find out information about her
father, she discovers in her mother's diary that she has three possible fathers.
So she decides to invite them to the wedding without her mother knowing... The
rest is better to watch, although we all know it ends with a wedding.
Once the project was accepted, Björn and Benny became
producers and collaborated with the musicians and singers.
Since Björn and Benny can't write music theory, they
had to show all their music to the musicians so they could score the musical,
also helping the actors sing as closely as possible to the original versions of
the songs.
Mamma Mia has thus become the biggest and best ABBA
cover concert.
Premiered on April 6, 1999, coinciding with the 25th
anniversary of "Waterloo"'s victory in the Eurovision Song Contest,
the musical grew rapidly and has expanded worldwide.
Mamma Mia has been seen in more than 50 countries on
six continents, by more than 65 million people.
Eleven productions have been released on CD, including
the Spanish version.
To celebrate ABBA's 25th anniversary, a compilation
album was released featuring, among other songs, Sofia & Michael B.
Tretow's "Honey, Honey”.
