Aurela THAYAA - Dancing Queen

Gimme! Gimme!
Last week, I already touched upon the anniversary of “Arrival,” so I’ve covered everything regarding its celebration.
This week also marks the anniversaries of the singles “The Name Of The Game” and “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight),” as well as the deluxe editions of the albums “The Album” and “Ring Ring.”
In 2004, ABBA updated their documentary “The Winner Takes It All” into a new one titled “Super Troupers,” which was also released on DVD.
In 1997, Frida released her early songs in the compilation “Frida 1967–1972,” while Agnetha released her rather unusual album, “A Plus.”
Finally, it’s worth noting that in 1999, the original London production of the musical “Mamma Mia!” released a CD featuring studio versions of its songs. Additionally, in 2005, Madonna released the single “Hung Up”—a track that, thanks to an ABBA sample, achieved even greater success than she could have ever imagined.
As for new releases, yesterday saw the launch of an album by Nanne, consisting entirely of demos she had kept since the beginning of her career.
I haven’t had time to listen to every track, but I’ve selected “Det vackraste”—a 2004 demo, though the original song was written by Nanne herself in 1995 for Cecilia Vennersten.
Also featured is an excerpt from “Sunset Boulevard” performed by Helen Sjöholm, who will be starring in the production at the Malmö Opera.
To wrap things up, there’s a version of “Dancing Queen” that I quite enjoyed, performed by Aurela Thayaa.
Gimme! Gimme!

Heguingaule & Italiale Riame - Chiquitita

He elegido «Slipping Through My Fingers», interpretada por Margo Junique, para no poner «Mamma Mia».
1976 was a great year for ABBA and their fans.
That year saw the arrival of "Dancing Queen" and the album “Arrival”, which includes two other hits.
We were also introduced to "Fernando," which was released as a standalone single.
We already celebrated the album's first single back in August, and now it is time to celebrate the album itself.
The celebration will take place during a fan club webinar on October 22nd.
It is always a great opportunity to enjoy ABBA's music together from home.
This week, we are also celebrating the Deluxe Edition of “Arrival”, released in 2006.
It was the first installment in that series.
In 2016, we celebrated “Arrival” with a half-speed mastered double LP and a colored vinyl singles box set.
For the moment, nothing has been announced for this year.
Charlie Norman, Wolfgang Heilemann, and Anders Ekborg all celebrated their birthdays this week—though Charlie Norman celebrated from heaven.
On this day in 1967, Frida released the single "Din."
On this same date in 1972, ABBA released "People Need Love" in France and Belgium.
And on this same date—this time in 1982—ABBA filmed the Dutch documentary “The Story of ABBA”.
On October 7, 1995, the musical “Kristina från Duvemåla” premiered in Malmö.
Its premiere would reconcile the Swedish public with Björn and Benny, the creators of ABBA's famous music.
Also on this day two years ago, Jan Gradvall published the book “Melancholy Undercover”.
On the German edition of “The Voice”, two contestants performed ABBA songs.
I chose "Slipping Through My Fingers," performed by Margo Junique, so I wouldn't have to play "Mamma Mia." Since I don't have anything interesting to present as a second new release, I’ve chosen "Dina vägar" by Anna Stadling for you. The song came out last week.
We really only know Anna from her occasional duets with Helen Sjöholm.
I’m getting tired of hearing the same old ABBA covers on YouTube.
I mean, artists always seem to pick the same songs.
I also don't like it when they have very young children singing as best they can.
Usually, the song they choose is "Chiquitita."
But there is an exception: the one I’ve chosen today to close the show.
Heguingaule and Italiale Riame sing well, and the video is well edited.

COVER7 - Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) {Funk/Soul ABBA Cover Live }

In these times when TV news broadcasts only report bad news, we find solace in taking refuge—even if just for a little while—in the world of ABBA, where love is present in almost every song.
TVE is well aware of this and aired the documentary “Contra todo pronóstico” (Against All Odds) as part of its programming this week.
Owe Sandström celebrated his birthday last Monday.
In 1970, the single "Hej Gamle Man" by Björn and Benny was released; Agnetha and Frida provided only backing vocals on the track.
On this day in 1980, ABBA was filming music videos for "Super Trouper," "Happy New Year," and "Felicidad," while simultaneously working on the programs “Somewhere In The Crowd There's You” and “Words And Music”.
On October 1, 1981, the highly anticipated Christmas album by Agnetha and her daughter Linda, “Nu Tandas Tusen Juleljus”, was released.
Also highly anticipated was the 2014 release of the complete 1979 London concert on the CD “Live At Wembley Arena”.
Three years later, Benny released his album “Piano”, featuring his favorite songs performed solely on that instrument.
Finally, in 2024, BAO released the album “Alla Kan Dansa”, their most recent work to date.
The Spanish production of “Mamma Mia!” has opened in Barcelona, and this new season features Anna Lagares in the role of Donna.
She seems to be doing a great job, as you can see in that podcast.
Magnus Carlsson is releasing a compilation of his recent hits, and I’ve chosen the title track, "Våga."
To wrap things up, here is another cover of "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!"—this time by the group Cover7 on YouTube.

Viktor Norén y Linus Wahlgren han interpretado “Slipping Through My Fingers” en Bingolotto y será nuestra segunda novedad.
Para acabar, un cover de Gimme! Gimme!
On Television Española’s channel La 2, a program was dedicated to ABBA featuring a concert that included a symphony orchestra and four singers portraying the group.
Interestingly, the two men didn't play any instruments, so they could only dance and provide backing vocals for the women.
The highlight was that they sang several songs in Spanish, including "Conociéndome, Conociéndote," which I’ve chosen for the podcast.
The concert is still available to watch on RTVE’s on-demand service.
The compilation album ABBA Gold was released on September 21, 1992, and remains ABBA’s best-selling album to this day.
This record was very important to me; after ten years of not listening to ABBA, I bought it and—beyond just listening to the music: I found an address on the back cover that would change my life: the official ABBA fan club.
Today would have been Olivia Newton-John’s birthday, and we will remember her in this podcast.
Janne Schaffer also celebrated his birthday last Thursday.
A year after ABBA Gold, the album ABBA Oro was released, featuring just ten songs in Spanish.
We had to wait until 1999 to get the same album with all fifteen songs recorded in that language.
In 1996, Frida released the album Djupa Andetag; the DVD ABBA: The Movie came out in 2005, followed by the ABBA in Japan DVD in 2009.
Viktor Norén and Linus Wahlgren performed "Slipping Through My Fingers" on Bingolotto, and that will be our second new track.
To wrap things up, here is a cover of "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" found on YouTube, performed by a completely unknown group.
Gimme! Gimme!

En 2009 Björn & Benny y yo estábamos en el Concierto Thank You For The Music en Hyde Park en Londres dónde Kylie Minogue interrumpió su gira para interpretar “When All Is Said And Done” con Benny.
Last Sunday was election day in Sweden, and Benny appeared alongside Socialist candidate Magdalena Andersson at her final rally; naturally, he sat down at the piano to perform "Mamma Mia," but the crowd changed the lyrics to "Magdalena Mia."
This story has made headlines in media outlets around the world. Who says ABBA is old?
Graham Tainton and Ola Brunkert would have celebrated their birthdays this week.
Frida released the album "Anni-Frid Lyngstad" in 1970, and ABBA was filming the music video for "Money, Money, Money" in 1976.
In 2009, Björn, Benny, and I attended the "Thank You for the Music" concert in London's Hyde Park, where Kylie Minogue took a break from her tour to perform "When All Is Said and Done" with Benny.
The Björn & Benny song "Buller o Bång" was performed before King Carl Gustaf at the Royal Palace on September 15, 2023, to celebrate his 50-year reign.
PippiLotta Langstrømpe is the Norwegian name for Pippi.
Last Friday, the title song from the musical in that language was released as a single.
We might get the full album soon.
As a second new release, we have a timely track: "Slipping Through My Fingers" by Nifana and Jessica, which came out as a digital single yesterday.
I couldn't choose between the two songs I liked for the finale, so you get both.
My apologies to those who think there are too many covers in my podcasts.
En 2009, Björn, Benny et moi assistions au concert « Thank You For The Music » à Hyde Park, à Londres, où Kylie Minogue avait interrompu sa tournée pour interpréter When All Is Said And Done avec Benny.

Y para acabar "Where Do We Go From Here?" de Agnetha el verano pasado.

We are ready for a new season of MundoABBA.
This summer, you were able to enjoy the story of ABBA through their music via a YouTube playlist—which I have updated and now contains over 400 videos featuring key moments involving ABBA and its members.
In this episode, you will find Nanne’s new single “Hold Me,” the ATeens’ appearance on Allsång på Skansen, the Från Broadway till Duvemåla troupe performing “One Night in Bangkok” on Bingolotto, and finally, Systerpolskan performing “Bingsjöbussen” at Rättvik Church.T
hese are just a few of the new releases from this summer.
I won’t go through every anniversary from the summer here; for those interested, I’ve listed them at the end of the blog post.
I will, however, mention “Dancing Queen,” as the single’s 50th anniversary was celebrated in cities around the world.
For this reason, this week I’m featuring three covers of that song—all released specifically for the event.
Anniversaries this week include the 1978 release of the single “Summer Night City”; Mike Oldfield’s 1980 cover of “Arrival”; Frida’s albums Something’s Going On (1982) and Shine (1984); Carl-Magnus Palm’s book ABBA at 50 (2022); and BAO’s single “Lagt Kort Ligger” (2024).
To wrap things up, here is an incredible “Dancing Queen” flash mob on the beach in Gijón.
Aniversary from this summer
First, those celebrating birthdays during the summer include Michael B. Tretow, Tommy Körberg, Kalle Moraeus, and Peter Gronvall.
Albums released during this same period include The Visitors—which became the first-ever CD in 1982—ABBA Live in 1986, and all ABBA studio albums released on CD in 2001, on vinyl in 2014, and on colored vinyl in 2020.
Agnetha also released her remastered albums in 2005; regarding Mamma Mia, the Dutch and German productions launched in 2004, followed by the film soundtracks in 2008 and 2018.
The most recent albums are I Let The Music Speak by Anne-Sofie von Otter in 2006 and Before ABBA in 2013.
Now for the singles: Frida’s “Min egen stad” in 1971, “Dancing Queen” on August 16, 1976, “Voulez-Vous” on August 3, 1979, “The Winner Takes It All” on July 21, 1980, “I Know There’s Something Going On” in August 1982, “Mio min mio” by Gemini in 1987, Frida’s “Även en blomma” in 1996, “The Sun Will Shine Again” by Frida and Jon Lord in 2004, Benny’s “Vilar glad i din famn” in 2010, Agnetha’s “Dance Your Pain Away” in 2013, and BAO’s “Nyårsballongen” in 2014.
And finally, Agnetha’s “Where Do We Go From Here?” last summer. Then there are ABBA’s appearances on The Tommy Cooper Show in 1974, Seaside, Musikladen, and Momarkedet in 1975, as well as the premieres of Mamma Mia! in Stockholm in 2008 and 2018.
Agnetha performed two songs live on the program Sommarnöjet in August 1975.
In July 1983, Frida took part in the musical ABBAcadabra, recording “Belle” with Daniel Balavoine, and on August 19, 2017, she was in Torshälla for the city’s 700th anniversary.
ABBA filmed music videos for “That’s Me” in 1977, “Summer Night City” in 1978, “The Winner Takes It All” in 1980, and “When All Is Said And Done” in 1981.
On June 30, 1992, Erasure released the ABBA-esque video, and ABBA released the DVDs The Definitive Collection in 2002 and The Last Video in 2004.
On July 4, 2009, Sweden inaugurated its European presidency with a BAO concert on Hampstead Heath in London, and in July 2011, BAO recorded parts of their concerts for the DVD Benny Anderssons Orkester 10 År.
The final summer anniversary is the 2018 release of Björn’s book You Are Who You Meet.
