ABBA at 50 (Carl-Magnus Palm Book)
ABBA at 50
It's always
a pleasure to have a new ABBA book in front of you. Fortunately, it is written
by Carl-Magnus Palm, the Swedish author, great connoisseur of the group and
author of several books about them.
We
therefore have all the ingredients to be in front of a beautiful work.
Here is the presentation of the publisher Palazzo Editions:
It's a book
for the general public that covers the entire career of ABBA and its members,
it's as comprehensive as my podcasts this summer on the History of ABBA and I'm
glad to see how well we've told the same thing. Obviously, I must admit that
Carl tells it much better than me!
What the publisher says about the author:
No problem
with the story it tells. It is complete and all the stages of our four artists
are well told. The main collaborators of ABBA are named, but I would have liked
a frame like for Michael B. Tretow for
Owe Sandström and the main musicians of the group.
Half of the
240 pages of the book contain images that make reading pleasant and although we
are talking about unpublished photos, personally, I have not seen any, except
in the last chapter, devoted to Voyage. But it does not matter. In this kind of
book, we prefer the classic photos of ABBA, with their extravagant costumes, or
with the family. In addition, the author has made his choice well and offers
images from all countries.
The chapter
on ABBA Voyage is a bit short and sorely lacking in photos in studios or this
famous photo, in the snow, outside the studio. It may be a legal issue, but
it's a shame.
The book is
divided into 14 chapters which all end with a technical sheet of an album of
the moment. 16 albums are thus described with all the information on their
recordings.
Without a
doubt, I recommend this book which also exists in French (L’album des 50 ans)
and in German (Thank You For The Music).
Finally
there is an English eBook version which is unfortunately not very interesting
because it only contains the text and the cover as the only image. There are
not even the technical sheets on the albums that end each chapter.
A book is
no longer up to date the day after its release; in our case, even before, since
the author didn't have time to talk about Björn and Benny's last musical
released in June 2022, “Pippi På Cirkus” and he also tells that Björn is happy for
40 years with Lena!
The book
was released on September 8, 2022 and you can buy it from
its publisher Palazzo Editions, or on Amazon of course. (ISBN: 9781786751010)
I created a Playlist with all the songs mentioned in the book and which exists in Spotify.
